Good news: FG to improve remuneration for teachers, other workers

The federal government has said that a comprehensive policy for improved remuneration for teachers and all public servants is being developed.

President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by Mr Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said this at the 2018 Nigeria’s Annual Education Conference on Tuesday, November 6, in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that president said the remuneration policy would include genuine pension scheme.

The conference has the theme, “Education for Self-Reliance: A System’s Approach to Education for the achievement of Education 2030 Agenda.”

He said that the choice and timing of the theme was apt for the fact that Nigeria had dedicated itself to the implementation of the education 2030 agenda.

“With the depression in the labour market, education should now be tailored towards the acquisition of skills and abilities that can make the individual a productive and self-reliant member of the society.”

He said that the federal government, through the ministry of education, had promoted Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Buhari added that government had also developed science and technology education policy for the realisation of TVET objectives and dreams.

The president further stated that government had commenced the development of a policy on product innovation, exhibition and commercialisation.

He noted that the development would create a window for advancing the outcomes of the national annual students’ skills competition towards practical utilisation and economic benefits.

Buhari said that to reduce unemployment, poverty, hunger and violence, Nigerians must pay less attention to education for white collar jobs and embrace education for self-reliance, job and wealth creation.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the new minimum wage of N30,000 proposed by the Tripartite Committee set up to review the national minimum wage.

the president gave his endorsement on Tuesday, November 6, shortly after he received the report of the committee presented to him.

Meanwhile, just recently, Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello granted unconditional pardon to 287 prisoners. Four among the prison inmates were on death row and two others convicted and kept in prison custody.

Sani-Bello said the gesture was in spirit of the season of independence and by the virtue of the powers vested in him by section 212 of the 1999 constitution(as amended).

It seems all is not well in the camp of Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) owned by one of Nigeria’s finest artiste, David Adeleke AKA Davido. One of its most recent signees, Idowest, who was popular for his ‘Shepeteri’ song has reportedly left the label.

Davido signed the talented artiste on May 24, 2018 and announced on his Instagram page with the caption

‘’Welcome to DMW !! IDOWEST!!!!!! You have proved ur worth!!!! NOW LETS GET MONEY!! JI MASUN’’.

The fans of Davido and Idowest all leaped for joy after the great announcement but 6 months later, all seems to have turned sour between both of them.

Gunmen ambush and wound Captain Zakari Sani alongside other soldiers in Benue State

A Captain in the Operation Whirl Stroke stationed in Benue, Zakari Sani, has been wounded in an ambush, alongside other officers.

The Defence Headquarters In a series of tweets via its verified Twitter handle @DefenceInfoNG on Tuesday said that “a very courageous and hardworking officer, Zakari Sani, was ambushed alongside other soldiers in Benue, while on Operation Whirl Stroke".

It noted that Sani was badly wounded and was evacuated to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, where he was initially stabilised and later evacuated to Ceda Crest Hospital in Abuja, for higher management outside of the operations theatre.

“Ceda Crest Hospital is one of the best hospitals in the country as at today. The team of doctors and other medical staff, including expatriates, are attending to the officer whose situation, though serious, is getting better by the day,” the tweet said.

The DHQ said that Sani has undergone several medical procedures which have helped to stabilise him further. It denied allegation that the wounded officer had been taken out of the country, saying, “Information given about Captain Zakari may be intended to ensure he gets the best of medical attention, but the narrative is not true. “If he had been hurriedly taken out of the country without the stabilisation treatment according to medical advice, the outcome may not be certain.”

28-year-old Jack Chapman from Australia has died after injecting his balls with silicone for a 'sex cult' game gone wrong.

The gay man who was said to be in a homoerotic master-slave relationship died in Seattle, USA, after injecting large quantities of silicone into his genitalia.

According to UK Sun, Chapman's death certificate 'Silicone Injection Syndrome' was listed as one of four causes of death, alongside three lung-related causes.

"He was not the Jack that I sent over there. He had no self-esteem, he'd lost himself in this cult. This was a disturbed boy."

Niger governor presents N159.5b to assembly

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello, has presented a N159.52 billion 2019 budget to the state House of Assembly in Minna.

The proposal, tagged: “Budget of Sustenance and Continuity” is 5.43 per cent higher than the 2018 budget.

A breakdown of the budget showed that N96.20 billion, representing 60.31 per cent was allocated for capital expenditure, while N63.324 billion, 39.69 per cent, was provided for recurrent expenditure.

The administration sector was allocated N8.755 billion; economic sector, N56.032 billion; social sector, N29.876 billion; and law and justice, N1.540 billion, all from the capital expenditure.

Bello noted that the 2019 estimate would focus mainly on completion of ongoing projects that have direct bearing on lives of the citizens.

He cited projects in the areas of infrastructure, education, water resources, agriculture and social development, to stimulate economic growth through investment inflows.

Ekweremadu victim of burglary attempt, police say

Nigerian police Tuesday night said the country’s deputy senate president was a victim of a burglary attempt and not assassination as he claimed.

“Preliminary investigation carried out so far did not reveal assassination attempt on the life of the Dep Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and his family but a case of Burglary,” Nigeria Police Force tweeted on Tuesday.

But the Senator Ike Ekweremadu insisted that there was an attempt to kill him.

He told his colleagues in the Senate hours after the alleged assassination attempt that he was able to escape because “there was a fight with heavy commotion.”

One of the suspected assassins, he said, was apprehended and handed over to the police.

“It was about 4:00 a.m. this morning that some people evaded the security in my house and got all the way to my room where I was sleeping with my wife,” he said.

“There was a struggle. There was a fight with heavy commotion. And by the grace of God, we eventually caught one of them and the rest escaped.”

He said the response to his distress call to the inspector-general of police and the deputy inspector-general in charge of operations were poor.

“The annoying aspect or the one that is worrisome is that at that point, I called the Inspector General of Police,” Ekweremadu said.

“His phone was (switched) off. I called some of his aides. Their phones rang out. Nobody replied, till now. I called DIG Operations. Till I left my house, nobody showed up.”

Police spokesman Jimoh Moshood, however, said five persons on Ekweremadu’s security detail have been arrested “negligent acts and dereliction of duty.”
